Vikings Clip SUNY-Fredonia 11-10

ENGLEWOOD, Fla. -- Salem State edged SUNY Fredonia 11-10 in the second game of their spring break Florida trip. Paige Giuliano (Braintree , Mass.) scored five goals as the Vikings erased a 7-3 halftime deficit. Salem State earned their first win to improve 1-2. The Ble Devils slide to 2-4.

Trailing 2-0 in the first, Giuliano cut the deficit in half before SUNY Fredonia again went up by two goals with a score at the 17:44 mark with a free position goal. Tara McLaughlin (Woburn, Mass.) and Giuliano added scores, but the Blue Devils ended the half on a 3-0 run to lead 7-3 enterning halftime.

Rose Sulliavan (Charlestown, Mass.) scored for Salem State to open the half, and following a goal by the Blue Devils, the Vikings countered with five straight scores to grab a 9-8 lead with 13:18 remaining. However, SUNY Fredonia reclaimed the lead with two straight scores, but Taylor Lund (Woburn, Mass.), who scored her second of the game and Giuliano notched back-to-back goals to give Salem State the lead with 1:01 left in the game. SUNY Fredonia appeared to score the tying goal in the final seconds, but the goal was waived off due to a stick violation and the Vikings held on for an 11-10 victory.

Gianna DeNisco (Peabody, Mass.) earned the win making seven saves. Giuliano also won six draw controls.
