Falcons Hold Off Vikings 2-1

SALEM, Mass. – Molly Martin and Kayla Clark each scored a goal as Albertus Magnus held on for a 2-1 win over Salem State in New England Hockey Conference action on Friday evening at Rockett Arena. The loss eliminates Salem State from playoff contention as the Vikings slip to 6-18 overall and 2-15 in the NEHC. The Falcons improve to 5-17-2 and 3-13-1 in the league. 

How it Happened:

  • Martin took the puck the length of the ice and ripped a shot just past that the blue line, that glanced off the inside post for a shorthanded goal, giving Albertus Magnus a 1-0 lead midway through the first period.  
  • Clark wrapped a shot around goalie Samantha Jaworski to increase the Falcons' lead to 2-0 at the 3:46 mark of the third.   
  • Halle Greenleaf broke behind the defense and scored on a breakaway to pull Salem State to within 2-1 with 9:50 remaining in the third.   

Inside the Numbers:

  • Christmas Johnson (4-14-2) picked the win for the Falcons making 18 saves.
  • Samantha Jaworski (2-5) took the loss stopping 24 shots.
  • Neither team converted on the power play as Salem State went 0-for-5 and Albertus Magnus 0-for-3.

Salem State hosts Albertus Magnus again tomorrow Saturday, February 15 for "Senior Day" in their final regular season game at 2:00 PM.
