SALEM, Mass. – Salem State women's ice hockey freshman Isabella Gillis (Somerville, Mass.) scored the overtime goal to give the Vikings a 4-3 victory over the Pilgrims from New England College (NEC). Tonight's win improved the Vikings record to 6-12 overall and 2-9 in conference play.
How it Happened:
- Mikayla Talbot (Scarborough, Maine) wasted no time putting the Vikings on the board, scoring just 47 seconds into the game to give Salem a 1-0 lead.
- Ten minutes later, with an assist from Tea Miles (Northfield, Vt.), Brooke Dineen (Houston, Texas) doubled Salem's advantage with a second goal.
- Aislinn Bennet (Milford, Mass.) joined the party nine minutes into the third period, after she fired a shot into the back of the net to give the Vikings a three-goal lead. With under two minutes to go in the third, Olivia Lindberg managed to slip a shot past Delaney Cox (Spencer, Mass.), scoring the Pilgrims' first goal of the game and making it 3-1 as the teams headed into the final period.
- Lindberg kept the Pilgrims in the game, netting her second goal eight minutes into the third before finding Cordelia Hauck in the final seconds to tie the game at 3-3 and send it into overtime.
- With under 90 seconds remaining in overtime, Bennet fired a wide shot from just inside the blue line, but Gillis was there to clean it up, scoring the game-winning goal and securing a 4-3 overtime victory for the Vikings.
Inside the Numbers:
- Tonight's overtime win marks the Vikings' second of the season.
- Freshmen Mikayla Talbot and Isabella Gillis each scored their first career goals in a Vikings' uniform.
- Delaney Cox turned away 22 shots in her third victory of the season.
