GENEVA, N.Y. -- Mackenzie O'Neil's second period goal accounted for the only scoring as William Smith defeated Salem State, 1-0 in a New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) matchup on Saturday afternoon at The Cooler. The Herons complete the two-game sweep and improve to 5-8-1 and 5-3 in conference. The Vikings stand at 4-11 and 0-8 in the NEHC.    

How it Happened:

  • O'Neil broke past the Salem State defense and collected a feed from Allie Cimis; beating goalie Delaney Cox with a wrister with less than seven minutes remaining in the second period.  

Inside the Numbers:

  • Erin Murray (4-7-1) collected her second straight shutout, stopping 15 shots.
  • Cox (1-9) took the loss, making 35 saves.
  • William Smith outshot Salem State 36-15.
  • Neither team was successful on the power play, as Salem State went 0-for-3 while the Herons were 0-2.  

 Up Next:

Salem State remains on the road and will face Southern Maine in an NEHC matchup next Friday, January 17 @ 4:00 pm.
