Rivier Stuns Salem State With Late Comeback Win

SALEM, Mass.  --  Rivier's Rebecca McKelvey scored two late goals to lift Rivier to a 3-2 overtime victory over Salem State on Friday evening at Rockett Arena. McKelvey scored with three seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime and then netted the game-winner as the Raiders improve to 3-7 on the season. The Vikings go to 2-8.

How it Happened:

  • Salem State's Megan Azzato picked up a loose pick up off a face-off in Rivier's end and went-coast-to-coast, beating goalie Rachel Symmes, high on her glove side at 5:57 of the first.

  • Keegan McGaheran pulled Rivier to within a score, going around a defender and putting home a wrister at 19:01 of the second.
  • The game appeared to be secured by Salem State with :20 seconds remaining, but after a timeout and with their goalie pulled, McKelvey picked up the puck at center ice and backhanded her own rebound past goalie Samantha Jaworski to tie the game at 2-2 to force overtime.
  • The extra period then saw McKelvey take the puck at center ice, setting up a 2-on-1, and slipping a shot past Jaworski for the game-winner with 2:14 left in overtime.
