Osgood's Buzzer-Beater Sends Salem State to Victory

PLYMOUTH, N.H. --  Ginger Osgood's goal right before time expired sent Salem State to an exciting 3-2 victory over Plymouth State on Monday afternoon at Hanaway Rink in a non conference women's hockey tilt. With seven seconds remaining, Halle Greenleaf found a loose puck in the Panthers' corner and rifled a pass to Osgood in front of the net, who backhanded the pass past Panthers goalie Karlee Lehner to stun Plymouth State just before the clock showed zero. The Vikings improve to 2-7 while the Panthers dip to 5-3. 

How it Happened:

  • Emily DeSimone put the home team on top 1-0 early in the first. 
  • However, Makayla McGrath tallied the equalizer at 14:55 of the first as the teams headed into the locker room tied at 1-1.
  • Greenleaf scored her second goal of the season to put the Vikings ahead 2-1 in the second.
  • Laura Castronova answered for the Panthers at 1:54 of the third to tie the game at two goals apiece.
  • The game appeared headed for overtime until Osgood came up with the unexpected game-winner for her second goal of the year.

Inside the Numbers:

  • Samantha Jaworski (2-3) earned the win in net making 27 saves.
  • Karlee Lehner (5-1) suffered her first loss for the Panthers stopping 17 shots.
  • The Vikings snap a two-game skid against Plymouth State and are now 6-7-3 all-time against the Panthers.
  • Greenleaf finished with a goal and two assists for Salem State.
  • Osgood scored a goal and added an assist for the Vikings.
  • Plymouth State held a 29-20 advantage in shots.
