2024-25 Women's Ice Hockey Preview

SALEM, Mass. -- Second-year head coach Ray Kizzie leads Salem State into their final season in the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) as the Vikings prepare to move to the newly formed Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) in 2025-26. Coach Kizzie is motivated to improve upon last season's 5-18-2 record as a revamped roster will be looking to make its mark in Salem State's farewell season in the highly competitive NEHC.

Season Outlook

Captain Téa Miles is one of two experienced defensive starters, who along with Aislinn Bennett will be counted on to help Salem State get off to a fast start before conference play begins on November 15 against UMass Boston. Forward Megan Azzato returns after a promising freshman campaign to lead the way offensively, and to build chemistry with the 12 new freshmen, who will be suiting up for the first time. Coach Kizzie will have to replace Salem State record-setting goaltender Kaia Hollingsworth as incumbent Cassandra Valentine - two career starts - will compete to be the regular starter along with a host of prospective new and returning goalies.

Coach's Take - Ray Kizzie

"I really like the group that we have. I believe in them. I trust that we will play with confidence and compete every shift. If we believe in each other and play the game the right way, I am looking forward to an exciting year."

From The Captain - Téa Miles

"This season, I want to focus on building a strong team culture, improving our performance on the ice, and encouraging individual growth. As the team works toward a winning record, I want them to create solid relationships on and off the ice to help improve our teamwork and communication. We want to prioritize offense and defensive strength in difficult circumstances, while also focusing on strengthening our talents through concentrated practices throughout the season.

Outside of the rink, I am dedicated to building a welcoming atmosphere where each player feels appreciated, and encouraged. My ultimate objective is to set a good example for my teammates, motivate them, and make sure that during the season, we all develop as players and as a team.  "
