NASHUA, N.H. -- Makayla McGrath (Saugus, Mass.) and Brenna Greene (Haverhill, Mass.) each notched second period goals as Salem State edged Rivier 2-1 on Tuesday night at Conway Arena. The Vikings win for the second time in three games and go to 5-17 on the year. The Raiders are now 1-12-2.
A scoreless opening period led to three goals combined in the second period. McGrath put Salem State on the board 1-0 at the 7:01 mark. Greene then added her third goal of the season to put the Vikings in front 2-0. However, Ellie Grady put one home for Rivier with less than four minutes left to make the score 2-1 heading into the third.
Hannah Aveni (Melrose, Mass.) turned away all five shots to pick up the victory as the Vikings did not allow a shot to get through in the final period. Madelyn Morgan made 37 saves for the Raiders, who were outshot 37-5 for the game.
