Salem State, Suffolk Play to 1-1 Draw

SALEM, Mass. - The Salem State Vikings and the Suffolk Rams skated to a 1-1 draw on Friday night at Richard H. Rockett Arena. Vikings' goalie Sarah Plourde (Hooksett, NH), who made 40 saves and the Rams' Julia McLellan (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.), who stopped 34 shots were outstanding in net. Salem State's record is now 1-2-1 and 1-1-1 in the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC). Suffolk is currently 1-3-1 on the year and 1-1-1 in the NEHC.

11:31 into the first period, the Vikings had a faceoff in their offensive zone. Jessica Robert (North Reading, Mass.) won the faceoff and passed it back to Amanda Giles (Merrimack, NH). Giles took a quick shot in front of the blue line and Alexis Thomas (Barnstable, Mass.) was in front of the net to guide the puck in to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead.

1:31 into the second period, after a strong Suffolk forecheck, Izzy Hendry (Holladay, Utah) took a shot from ten feet out and Haley Poloskey (Mattawan, Mich.) tipped the puck in to even up the score for the Rams 1-1.

Neither squad could score in the rest of the second period or in the third period which forced overtime.

In the first 30 seconds of overtime, Rose Sullivan (Charlestown, Mass.) had a great opportunity to score on a one-on-one break. Sullivan attempted a shot and the puck was batted away.

Suffolk couldn't manage to get a shot attempt in overtime which ruined their chances to win.

Suffolk edged Salem State in shot attempts 41-35.
