Vikings End Regular Season With 4-2 Loss to Castleton

SALEM, Mass. -- Aimee Briand (Barrington, N.H.) scored a goal and added an assist as Castleton scored three unanswered goals to skate away with a 4-2 victory over Salem State on Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale for the Vikings. The Spartans improve to 9-13-3 and go to 9-5-2 in the New England Hockey Conference. Salem State slips to 6-14-4 and 3-10-3 in conference.

Salem State honored seniors Danielle Kelley (Charlestown, Mass.), Catherine "Cat" Salvetti (Saugus, Mass.), Jacqueline "Jackie" Sindoris (Charlestown, Mass.), Courtney "Bit" Smith (Peabody, Mass.) and Sara Zatorski (Parker, Colo.) in a pre-game ceremony for their commitment to the women's hockey program.

Casie Curtain (Wrentham, Mass.) punched in a rebound to give Salem State a 1-0 lead just 2:04 into the first. However, Nicolle Trivino (Georgetown, Ontario) tied the game as her shot from the point trickled past goalie Isabelle Woodward (Ottawa, Ontario), who was screened on the play.

Tied at 1-1 in the second, Julia Dares (Hanover, Mass.) temporarily put Salem State ahead 2-1 before Jocelyn Forrest (Prince George, B.C.) poked in a rebound at 15:11 of the period. Briand put the Spartans back on top as she fought off a Vikings' defender for a breakaway score with less than thirty second remaining in the second.

Jade Remillard (Fairfield, Vt.) added an insurance power play goal midway through the third, extending the Castleton lead to 4-2.

Katlyn Hathaway (Pembroke, Mass.) made the lead stand up, making 11 saves in the win. Woodward stopped 18 shots for Salem State.
