Perryman Named 1st Team All-MASCAC, Rookie of the Year, Headlines Three All-Conference Selections

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Freshman Tara Perryman (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) earned 2025 MASCAC Softball Rookie of the Year honors and was a first team all-conference selection as announced by the league on Wednesday, May 7.  Junior Allison Frost (Auburn, Mass.) joined Perryman on the all-conference first team while graduate student Taylor McDermott (Durham, Conn.) was selected to the all-conference second team. 

Perryman was named the top rookie after batting .429, which was ninth highest in the MASCAC. Used primarily as a catcher, Perryman tied for second on the team, collecting 33 hits and finished third on the Vikings with 18 RBI. Perryman is the first Salem State player to win Rookie of the Year since Marisa Sanchez in 2015. Frost had a breakout year for the Vikings, batting .342 to go with a league-leading 42 steals. Frost now owns the Salem State records for steals in a season and career (83). The centerfielder topped the league in walks with 23 and her 32 runs scored and 38 hits led the Vikings.

McDermott was awarded second team honors after compiling a .359 average and a team-leading eight doubles. The third baseman had a team-high 24 RBI and tied for second on the Vikings with 33 hits.  

Worcester State's Emma Lanpher and Westfield State's Katherine Canty were named the 2025 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Year and head up the all-conference squad which is voted on by the coaches from around the conference.
 
Lanpher, a senior short stop from Charlton, Mass., earns her second straight MASCAC Player of the Year honors after batting .458 with 60 total hits, eight doubles, two triples, 24 RBI, 40 runs scored, 11 walks and six stolen bases. She also registered a .550 slugging and .503 on-base percentage this season. 10 times during the regular season, she had a. 600 or better batting average while tallying 20 games with two or more hits from the lead off spot. On the fielding side, she was a perfect 1.000 on her putouts from short stop in 25 games over the regular season. In their win over Mass. Maritime to close out the regular season, Lanpher knocked in her 100th career RBI.
 
After helping the Owls to a program record for wins so far in a season with 31, Canty, a senior from Natick, Mass. was voted the 2025 MASCAC Pitcher of the Year. At the conclusion of the regular season, Canty led the conference with a 1.70 ERA with a 12-3 record, eight complete games, three saves, 85 strikeouts and a 1.09 WHIP over 82.1 innings pitched. She held opponents to a .235 batting average and only walked 14 batters. Over 10 appearances this year, she didn't allow an earned run, including a win over Framingham State where she only gave up five hits with seven strikeouts in the Owls' victory.
 
After leading the Owls to the MASCAC Regular Season title and top seed in the tournament for a second straight year, Joe Hough of Westfield State was voted by his peers as the 2025 BSN Sports Coach of the Year. 
 
Joining Lanpher, Canty and Perryman on the first team are Framingham State's Brooke Grassia, MCLA's Maddy Teta, Salem State's Allison Frost, Westfield State's Mia Alfonso, Sarah Bingham, Christina Ciampa and Hannah Wodecki and Worcester State's Bella Gasbarro, Emma Lapoint and Peyton Maloney.
 
Grabbing a spot on the MASCAC second team all-conference are Bridgewater State's Olivia Hargreaves, Angelina Lynch, Sydney Schaefer and Sidney Schwartz, Framingham State's Eliza Carignan, Ellie Etemad-Gilbertson, Audrey Gauthier and Makayla Rooney, MCLA'S Hailey Peabody, Mass. Maritime's Kelsey Booker, Salem State's Taylor McDermott, Westfield State's Kassidy LaTour and Worcester State's Morgan Keefe.
