Fowler Hits Three Home Runs In Salem State's 12-5 Win over MCLA

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Freshman Gianna Fowler connected for three home runs to lead Salem State to a 12-5 victory over MCLA in MASCAC softball action on Saturday. The Vikings finish the regular season 17-18 and 5-8 in conference. The Trailblazers go to 12-21. Salem State secured the fifth seed in the upcoming MASCAC Softball Tournament and will play fourth seed Bridgewater State on Tuesday.
How It Happened
Gracie Martineau went seven complete innings, giving up three earned runs on 10 hits to improve to 9-6 on the season. Fowler went 3-for-4 with three home runs, six RBI and three runs scored. Tara Perryman finished 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored.
Juliana Johansen (8-7) suffered the loss, giving up nine runs -- five earned -- on nine hits with two walks in 3.2 innings pitched. Hailey Peabody and Maddy Teta each went 2-for-4 for MCLA.
- Salem State struck for four first inning runs on a sacrifice fly by Taylor McDermott and Fowler's three-run blast.
- The Trailblazers added a run on Samantha Wheeler's RBI double in the second.
- Maggie Closinski's RBI double made it a 4-2 game in the third.
- Fowler led off the fourth with her second home run of the game, part of a four-run fourth that put Salem State in front 9-2. An error and Samantha Gaona-Sullivan's single up the middle brought home two more runs before Perryman added the final run with an RBI double to right center.
