Monks, Vikings Battle to Split

STANDISH, Maine -- Salem State and St. Joseph's split a doubleheader on Monday afternoon as the Monks took game one, 4-2 before the Vikings rebounded with a 13-9 victory in game two. Salem State goed to 11-9 while the Monks slip to 7-13.
Game 1
How It Happened
Madison Pelletier picked up the victory throwing 5.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits with three walks. Paige Connery pitched two scoreless inning, allowing one hit to earn the save. Pelletier was also 2-for-3 from the plate.
Sula Roberge threw a complete game, giving up four runs on nine hits with four walks and two strikeouts. Paige Souza went 1-for-2 with a double, RBI and run scored for Salem State.
- Sadie Tirrell's RBI double gave St. Joseph's a 1-0 first inning lead.
- The Vikings evened the score in the second as Souza drove home Taylor McDermott with the Vikings' first run
- Trailing 2-1 in the second, the Monks regained the lead on back-to-back singles by Makayla Quintal and Pelletier.
- Quintal added an insurance run with an RBI single in the fourth.
Game 2
How It Happened
Tara Perryman went 3-for-4 in game two with three RBI and two runs scored. Alanna Carbonneau was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Perryman earned the win pitching 5.2 innings of relief for starter Souza. Perryman gave up three runs on six hits with a strikeout.
Rylee Page started for St. Joseph's and went three innings giving up five runs on five hits with two walks and a strikeout. Sierra Laukka took the loss, allowing six runs - four earned - in one inning pitched on three hits, four walks with a pair of strikeouts. Abby Carpenter was 1-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.
- A Sylvia Foley double in the first gave the Monks a 2-0 lead.
- A Abbie Green-Sermak bases loaded walk and a Carpenter single made it 5-0 before Foley added another two-run double in the second.
- Salem State responded with a five-run third as an error and base hits by Cassandra Valentine and Perryman made it a 7-4 game. Carbonneau followed with an RBI double to cut the deficit to 7-5.
- A wild pitch and bases loaded walk to McDermott tied the game at 7-7 in the sixth.
- A wild pitch and sacrifice fly by Carpenter regained the lead for St. Joseph's, 9-7 in the bottom of the inning.
- The Vikings put the game away with a six-run sixth, as Allison Frost and Samantha Gaona-Sullivan put Salem State back on top 10-9. with base hits. An error, wild pitch and RBI single by Perryman added three more runs.
