SALEM, Mass. - Emily Henning hit a one-out double in the top of the seventh to spark Salem State to a 2-1 victory over Mitchell in game one of their scheduled doubleheader. Henning hit a ball off the left field fence and following a single, Samantha Gaona-Sullivan drove in Isabella Perrotti with the game-winner. In game two, Alanis Toledano (2-2) allowed a run on two hits with three walks and four strikeouts to pick up her second win of the season as the Vikings defeated the Mariners 3-1. Salem State evens their record at 7-7 while Mitchell goes to 5-7.
Game 1
Gaona-Sullivan went 2-for-4 with an RBI while Taylor McDermott added a hit in two at-bats with a run. Brooke Whitmarsh was 2-for-3 for Mitchell. Gracie Martineau picked up the win going all seven innings, allowing a run on six hits with a walk and two strkeouts. Emily Reynolds took the loss after throwing 6.1 innigs and giving up two runs on seven hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
How It Happened
- Salem State scored first in the bottom of the second on an RBI groundout by Perrotti.
- The Mariners tied the game in the fourth after Whitmarsh doubled to center and later scored on an RBI groundout by Christina Housley.
- The game remained tied until Henning nearly ended the game with a pinch-hit home run in the seventh, but a single by Allison Frost and fielder's choice brought home the game-winning run.
Game 2
McDermott had a single and RBI for Salem State, which managed just four hits. Housley had a hit and RBI for the Mariners. Sula Roberge picked up the save with a scoreless seventh. Mitchell pitcher Olivia DeCicco (1-2) pitched six innings, allowing three runs on four hits with four walks and two strikeouts in the loss.
How It Happened
- Housley gave Mitchell a 1-0 lead in the first with an RBI double to center.
- Tara Perryman tied the score in the bottom of the inning with an RBI groundout before McDermott gave the Vikings a 2-1 lead with an RBI single.
- Salem State added an insurance run in the second on an RBI groundout by Abigail Richardson.
