Softball Continues Spring Trek With Split

CLERMONT, Fla. -- Sula Roberge led Salem State to an 10-2 victory over Gallaudet on Wednesday as the Vikings pick up their second win in Florida to improve to 4-3 on the season.  Roberge pitched 4.2 innings and allowed just two runs on two hits in 4.2 innings and added an RBI triple to help her cause. Sam Gaona led the offense with two hits and two RBI while Allison Frost walked twice and added a hit to go with four runs scored. Earlier, the Middlebury Panthers defeated State 10-2 in five innings.

 How It Happened - Gallaudet

  • Samantha Gaona-Sullivan's RBI single in the first jump started the offense as the Vikings plated two runs to take a 2-0 lead. 
  • Leading 4-0 in the third, Hailey Ano made the score 5-0 with an RBI groundout.
  • Salem State scored four more runs in the fourth, taking advantage of four walks and a hit by pitch to add to their lead before Abigail Richardson's RBI groundout made it 9-0.
  • Two errors by the Salem State in the fifth led to two unearned runs for the Bison. 

How It Happened - Middlebury

Frost collected two hits in three trips to the plate with a run scored. Gracie Martineau started, going 4.0 innings, allowing seven runs - six earned on 11 hits. Mady Breault came on in relief and allowed four runs - three earned on four hits in 0.2 innings.

  • Middlebury plated two runs in the first on a sacrifece fly by Jennifer Westphal and an RBI single by McKenna Lont. 
  • The Panthers pushed across two runs in the second on a groundout and wild pitch.
  • Salem State generated a run in the third on a hit by Frost and walk to Isabella Perrotti. A double steal led to a run after an error by Middlebury.
  • Leading 5-1 in the fifth, Middlebury extended their lead to 7-1 after an RBI single by Olivia Schultz and and an error by the Vikings.
  • Tara Perryman added an RBI single in the fifth, but three runs by Middlebury in the botom of the fifth ended the game as Cate Viola's RBI single and Schultz's two-run single made the score 10-2.
