Vikings Split With Trinity, Keene To Open Spring Trip

CLERMONT, Fla. -- Salem State began their spring trip with a 14-11 come-from-being victory over Trinity on Monday afternoon at Legends Way Ballfields. Salem State scored six runs over the final two innings to erase an 11-8 deficit. In game two, the Keene State Owls handed Salem State an 11-3 loss as the Vikings are now 3-1 on the year.

Game 1 

Allison Frost was 3-for-3 with two walks, two runs and two RBI for Salem State. Dawn Eisnor finished 3-for-4 with a pair or runs batted in while Paige Souza collected a pair of hits, including a double, to go with two walks, two RBI and two runs scored. Alanis Toledano launched a two-run home run, her first of the year.

Gracie Martineau went the distance to pick up the win, surrendering 11 runs - four earned on 11 hits with two walks and a strikeout.

How it Happened

  • Salem State scored seven runs in the first as doubles by Taylor McDermott and Souza, sandwiched around an RBI single from Eisnor gave Salem State a 5-1 lead. A walk and fielder's choice grew the lead to six runs.
  • Trailing 8-2 in the third, Trinity plated four runs to draw to within 8-6 following two-run singles by Lizzie Nelson and Isabella Calagna.
  • Tied 8-8 in the fifth, the Bantams pulled ahead as a two-run double by Kennedy Rogers and single by Emily Goddard gave Trinity an 11-8 lead.
  • The Vikings answered in the bottom of the fifth, tying the game after a two-run home run to left by Toledano and RBI single by Alaina Giuliano.
  • Salem State surged ahead 14-11 with a three-run sixth, on RBI singles by Eisnor and Frost and an RBI groundout by Giuliano.

Game 2

Eisnor added two more hits in game two with a double and RBI. Frost and Sam Gaona each had a pair of hits. Toledano started on the mound for Salem State, lasting 0.2 innings while giving up six runs - five earned on two hits with six walks.

How it Happened

  • The Owls scored six times in the bottom of the first to take a commanding 6-0 lead. Four straight bases loaded walks accounted for four of the runs before a passed ball brought home Kalee Keyser with the sixth run.
  • Trailing 7-0, Salem State got on the board in the third with a pair of runs on back-to-back doubles by McDermott and Eisnor.
  • A Gaona single in the fourth made the score 8-3.
  • Keene State tacked on three more runs in the sixth on a steal of home, sacrifice fly and double by Ally Adams.
