Vikings and Lynx Split on the Evening

SALEM, Mass. – Salem State softball welcomed the Lynx from Lesley University for their second non-conference bout in just as many days. The Vikings found themselves back in the win column as they took the opening game from the Lynx by a score of 6-1 before dropping game two,5-1 , to bring their overall record to 8-16.

GAME 1

  • Rebecca Walker notched an RBI single in the bottom half of the opening inning to give the Vikings an early 1-0 tilt.
  • Salem built on their lead in the bottom of the third as Dawn Eisnor's double brought two runners around to extend the Viking's lead (3-0).
  • The Lynx used the top of the fourth inning to chip away at Salem's lead as Mahlia Medina's (Temecula, Calif.) double brought a runner home to cut their deficit to two, but once again, Eisnor was able to extend her team's lead in the bottom half of the inning as a two-RBI single gave Salem the 5-1 cushion.
  • The Vikings would notch one more run in the bottom of the sixth before taking the eventual 6-1 victory in game one.

GAME 2

  • Back-to-back RBI singles from the Lynx in the opening inning gave them their first lead on the day (2-0) before a pitchers' duel ensued for the following inning and a half.
  • The Lynx doubled their lead when they added two more in the top of the third before Maddison Donovan (Pittsfield, Mass.) was able to stop the bleeding as she caught a runner stealing to end the inning.
  • Lesley added another run before the Vikings got on the board in the bottom of the sixth when Sydney Rodriguez (Brighton, Colo.) launched the ball to right center for an RBI ground-rule double to bring the score to 5-1 in favor of the Lynx.
  • The Vikings retired the first three batters in the top of the seventh to enter the bottom of the inning with their rally caps on. Facing two outs, Mackenzie DeSantis (Ridge, N.Y.) connected on a hard-hit single down the left field line, but it would not be enough as a ground out two batters later would end the inning and solidify the 5-1 Lynx victory.
