Falcons Fly Past Vikings 7-1, 10-1

SALEM, Mass. – Mikayla Harnois (Attleboro, Mass.) scattered seven hits with two strikeouts and allowed one unearned run as Fitchburg State took game one of their Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) doubleheader on Friday afternoon. Harnois allowed just one hit after the third inning in improving to 12-5 on the season.

Taylor Colvin (Lancaster, Mass.) pitched a complete game three-hitter in game two as the Falcons completed the sweep with a 10-1, six-inning victory. Colvin allowed an unearned run while striking out three. Fitchburg State improves to 23-13 on the year and 7-5 in conference while the Vikings slip to 11-23 and 2-10 in conference.  

Game 1

A walk and error led to a run in the first inning for the Falcons as Harnois reached on an error by the shorstop and came home following the second Vikings' error of the inning. Three singles and a passed ball tied the game for Salem State in the bottom of the inning.

Leading 2-1 in the fifth, Fitchburg State plated three runs on a two-run double by Maddie Medina (Pelham, Mass.) and an RBI single by Michelle LeBlanc (Ashburnham, Mass.).  A run-scoring single by Audrey Johnson (Fitchburg, Mass.) and a passed ball gave the Falcons two-insurance runs in the sixth as Fitchburg went up by a score of 7-1.

Dominique Del Vecchio (Stoneham, Mass.) allowed six earned runs on seven hits with nine walks and three strikeouts in the loss.

Harnois had two hits and two runs scored for the Falcons while Luciana Mastromatteo (Peabody, Mass.) and Mikayla Porcaro (Amesbury, Mass.) each collected two hits apiece for Salem State.

Game 2

Fitchburg State scored five runs in the third to build a 5-0 lead. LeBlanc doubled in the first run before McKenzie Lambert (Wilbraham, Mass.) blasted a two-run homer for her 100^th career hit. Michaela Keenan (Boston, Mass.) added another two-run double as the Falcons batted around, sending 10 batters to the plate in the inning.

Fitchburg State increased the lead to 8-0 in the sixth as Medina and Johnson sandwiched RBI singles around a sacrifice fly by Lundyn Forcier (Woonsocket, R.I.). A two-run single to center by Johnson made it 10-0. Salem State scored a run in the bottom of the sixth on a Kasey Nolan RBI single, but it was not enough to stave off the mercy rule.

Gracie Hogan (Northbridge, Mass.) was charged with the loss after allowing five runs on eight hits in four innings of work.

Johnson, Olivia Pietersen (Norton, Mass.) and Courtney Luker (North Reading, Mass.) all had a pair of hits for Fitchburg State. Nolan had two-of-the three hits for the Vikings.
