Wilkins, Wood Earn Little East Accolades

SALEM, Mass. -- Sophomore Quentin Wilkins (Hamilton, Mass.) and freshman Mark Wood (Lynn, Mass.) were named the Little East Player and Rookie of the Week respectively in an announcement by the league on Monday. 

Wilkins went 6-0 on the week for the Vikings (3-0) at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles. He did not surrender a point in a 6-0, 6-0 victory over James Ontiveros of Lesley and swept both singles matches against Thomas and Vermont Castleton, winning 6-3, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-4. He teamed with Kevin Merino-Rivas to shutout Kai Burridge / Bennett Locke of Lesley, 8-0 and defeat Seb Soto / Calvin Cutler of Thomas. 8-3. Wilkins and Merino-Rivas earned an 8-7 doubles win against the Spartans to help Salem State earn a huge point in their 5-4 triumph to earn their first Little East victory. 

Wood went 6-0 for Salem State (3-0) at 3rd singles and 1st doubles. Wood did not allow a point against Lesley, winning 6-0, 6-0 at singles and teamed with Cory Cherico for an 8-0 doubles victory against Nick Rosen / James Ontiveros. Wood picked up a 6-1, 6-4 at singles and an 8-4 decision at doubles in a 6-3 win against Thomas. He clinched the victory against Vermont Castleton with a 6-2, 7-5 singles victory and again teamed with Cherico for an 8-1 doubles win.
