Salem State Places Four on Little East Men's Tennis All-Conference Team

SALEM, Mass. -- Four Salem State players were named to the 2023 Little East All-Conference Team as voted on by the league's head coaches in an announcement on Wednesday. The reigning champions placed three players on the first-team, highlighted by No. 1 singles player Andrew Muttiah (Colombo, Sri Lanka), who earned first team honors for the fourth time in his career. The two-time LEC Player-of-the-Year, went 11-1 at at singles this season, which included a 20-match win streak dating back to to 2020. His 44 singles wins place him third all-time in school history. He has gone 21-2 over the last four years in the LEC. Muttiah and No. 1 doubles partner, freshman Quentin Wilkins (Hamilton, Mass.) were named first team doubles as the pair went 10-2 overall while going undefeated in conference (6-0). 

Roni Bazile (Brockton, Mass.), a four-time All-LEC selection, makes his second first-team appearance after manning the No. 2 singles position for the Vikings. He went 9-2 for Salem State this year with an undefeated Little East record. Bazile has gone 19-5 over the last two seasons. Cory Cherico (Winthrop, Mass.) was named second-team, primarily playing at the No.3 singles position. He went 8-3 this season with a 4-2 conference record. Newcomer Wilkins also earned second-team recognition playing out of the No.4 singles spot. Despite losing his first four matches of the season, Wilkins ended the year strong, winning nine-straight matches, including a pivotal singles point in the championship match against Rhode Island College. Rounding out the all-conference selections are Bazile and Cherico, who were also voted to the second team at No. 2 doubles. The duo went 9-2 this season with a 5-1 conference mark.
