Salem State Knocks Off Bridgewater State 6-3

SALEM, Mass. – Andrew Muttiah (Colombo, Sri Lanka) and Peter Coletti  (Beverly, Mass.) each earned two wins apiece to lead Salem State past Bridgewater State 6-3 on "Senior Day" at The Central Campus Tennis Courts. Muttiah defeated Jeff Pavao (Somerset, Mass.) 6-1, 6-2 at first singles while Coletti beat Kendan Ziegler (Hadley, N.Y.) 6-1, 6-0 at second singles. The Vikings finish their spring season 2-1.

Salem State honored seniors Andrew Muttiah, Roni Bazile (Brockton, Mass.) and graduate-student Peter Coletti before the match for the commitment and dedication to the program.

Bazile notched a win at third singles, 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 over Christopher Ferry (West Tisbury, Mass.) and Cory Cherico (Winthrop, Mass.) won a tough two-tie breakers, three-set match at fourth singles, 7-6(7-4), 4-6, 7-6(13-11) over Colin Lamusta (Lynnfield, Mass.) for the Vikings.

The Bears (0-4) picked up wins at fifth and sixth singles as Joshua Bean (Kingston, Mass.) and Darius Desnoes (Ithaca, N.Y.) each won in straight sets.

Salem State's Coletti / Bazile notched an 8-7(7-5) victory over Pavao and Lamusta at first doubles. Muttiah / Cherico picked up the second doubles win for the Vikings with an 8-4 win over Ferry / Ziegler. Bean / Desnoes salvaged a point for the Bears with an 8-2 victory at third doubles over Johnson Ngandjui (Lynn, Mass.) and Kevin Merino-Rivas (Billerica, Mass.).
