SALEM, Mass. -- Salem State men's soccer found themselves back in the win column after five different players found the back of the net en route to their 5-0 shutout against the Buccaneers of Massachusetts Maritime Academy. This Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) win boosted the Vikings' conference record to 2-0-1 and overall record to 5-3-3.
How it Happened:
- Matheus Pelissari (Lowell, Mass.) opened the floodgates just three minutes into the game when he laced the ball into the bottom left corner to give the Vikings an early 1-0 tilt. Jason Casey (Dorchester, Mass.) would double the Vikings' lead in the 38th minute to give his squad the 2-0 advantage at was the break.
- Just over a minute into the second half, Vanilton Xavier (Brockton, Mass.) scored Salem's third goal off a cross from Stephane Fevry (Haverhill, Mass.). Fevry then added to the lead with a goal of his own in the 76th minute, making it a four-goal advantage.
- Kaden Yoder (Ashburnham, Mass.) scored the final goal of the game in the 79th minute, sealing the Vikings' 5-0 shutout victory over the Buccaneers.
Inside the Numbers:
- Jason Casey and Kaden Yoder recorded their first collegiate goals in this afternoon's victory, while Naderson Curtis (Manchester, Curtis) and Yoder dished out their first career-assists.
- Three of the Vikings' season-high five goals came from first-year players.
- Marcelo Silva (Marlborough, Mass.) notched his third shutout of the season.
