Fevry Shines in Vikings' 2-1 Victory

SALEM, Mass. – Stephane Fevry's (Haverhill, Mass.) playmaking was on display in tonight's men's soccer matchup against Plymouth State as the freshman contributed to both Vikings' goals en route to Salem's 2-1 victory over the Panthers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Both squads would have a couple of close calls in the opening stanza, but Erik Berg (Hadley, Mass.) and his counterpart remained solid in net to send the game into the break at a 0-0 stalemate.
  • The Vikings struck first coming out of the half after Fevry's cross set up Vanilton Xavier (Brockton, Mass.) for the finish in the opening minute to give Salem the 1-0 edge.
  • Less than a minute later, Fevry danced through the Bison's defense before finding the back of the net to put Salem ahead by two goals.
  • The Panthers would cut the lead in half at the 53rd minute when Sondre Asheim (Klepp, Norway) laced a penalty kick in the left corner to make it a 2-1 game.
  • The Panthers looked to level the score in the final 25 minutes of action, but Berg would save four shots to guide his squad to the 2-1 victory over the Panthers.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Vanilton Xavier netted his first goal of the season while Stephane Fevry dished out his first assist to go along with his second goal in tonight's victory.
  • Erik Berg turned away nine shots in tonight's win, which marks the first of his career in the orange and blue.
