Salem State Rallies Past Eastern Nazarene

Quincy, Mass. -- Dylan Senra converted a penalty kick in the 88th minute as Salem State rallied past Eastern Nazarene in a non-conference match at Creedon Field on Wednesday evening. The Vikings improve to 2-1 on the year while the Lions (0-1) lose their season opener.

Salem State trailed 1-0 at halftime before scoring twice in the second half to earn the win. Landon Picillo tallied his first career goal for Salem State to draw the Vikings even at 1-1 in the 47th minute. In a game that featured 25 fouls and six yellow cards, it was Senra who netted his first goal of the season, beating keeper Erik Berg, to propel Salem State to the win.

Dan Hill's goal in the 40th minute proved to be the only score of the first half. In a tightly contested game, both teams combined for just three shots on goal. Two yellow cards issued to Eastern Nazarene led to two opportunities for Salem State, but Berg denied any second chances by not allowing a rebound attempt. Jonathan Chasse stood in net for the Vikings, who attempted four corner kicks in the first half to none by the Lions.

Scoring chances were limited in the second half as both defenses controlled play. Both goalies faced just four shots with on goal after halftime with Berg making four saves for the game and Chasse finishing with three stops.
