Vikings' Second Half Surge Stops Falcons

FITCHBURG, Mass.– Aaron O'Toole (Quincy, Mass.) notched two second half goals and Kendy Prince (Medford, Mass.) added his twelfth goal of the season as Salem State shutout Fitchburg State 3-0 in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) match at Elliot Field on Friday evening. The Vikings move to 7-4 and remain unbeaten in conference (4-0). The Falcons got to 0-10 and 0-4 in the MASCAC.

After a scoreless first frame, the Vikings broke the stalemate in the 50th minute. Prince (Medford, Mass.) tucked a penalty shot inside the left corner for a 1-0 advantage. The Falcons countered with an opportunity from Gabriel Teixeira (Lunenburg, Mass.) whose shot screamed just wide of the net.

Salem doubled their margin (2-0) at 59:09 when sophomore Toole knotted his first collegiate goal off a crisp cross from the right wing by Cam Downer (Dracut, Mass.). O'Toole would add an insurance goal in the 82nd minute for the 3-0 final.

In goal, junior Matt Hauntsman (Milford, NH) made one save for the Vikings in the complete game effort. Fitchburg State senior Sebastian Jaramillo (Dracut, Mass.) posted seven saves in the loss.

Salem held a 17-4 advantage in shots, and corner kicks (10-0).
