Salem State Blanks Anna Maria 7-0

Salem State Blanks Anna Maria 7-0

SALEM, Mass. -- Salem State upended Anna Maria 7-0 Wednesday night at Alumni Field. Fabricio Torres (Quincy, Mass.) scored twice and Kendy Prince (Medford, Mass.) added a first half goal as the Vikings earned back-to-back wins to even their record at 3-3 on the year. The AMCATS are still looking for their first victory as they slide to 0-4-1.

Torres gave Salem State a quick 1-0 lead just 1:53 in to the contest.  A misplay just outside the goal area by the Anna Maria defense gave Torres a clean look, and he converted the turnover in his first goal of the year. Prince extended the lead to 2-0 in the 25th minute when he easily beat AMCATS' keeper David Flores (San Antonio, Texas) on a penalty shot. Nick Lawrence (North Attleboro, MAss.) had the best chance for Anna Maria late in the first half, but his shot was tipped away at the last second by goalie Matt Hauntsman (Milford, N.H.).  The Vikings racked up nine first half shots to just two for Anna Maria.

Salem State put the game away with five second half goals, dominating possession while outshooting the AMCATS 16-2 in the half. Prince set up Salem State's third goal with a nice feed at the top of the box to a streaking Cam Downer, (Dracut, Mass.), who beat Flores with a shot to the right side, for a 3-0 Vikings' lead in the 62nd minute. Lucas Amaral (Peabody, Mass.) made it 4-0 when his shot hit inside the left post and went in following a free kick by Damon Deocleciano (Lowell, Mass.). Amaral found Torres in the 75th minute, who managed to stay onside after beating the AMCATS' defense, for the Vikings' fifth goal. Jaylin Cordes (Winthrop, Mass.) connected from 18 yards out in the 80th minute for his first score of the year. Endi Doku (Peabody, MAss.) closed the scoring when he knocked in his own rebound in the 86th minute.

Hauntsman earned the win making one save. Adal Barragan (Orlando. Fla.) and Jake Howard (North Attleboro, Mass.) both saw time in net for the Vikings in the second half with Barragan making one save. Flores stopped five shots in the loss for Anna Maria.
