Salem State Places Five on 2019 MASCAC Men's Soccer All-Conference Team

SALEM, Mass. – Midfielder Lucas Amaral (Peabody, Mass.), defender Patrick Filetti (Newburyport, Mass.) and keeper Christopher Jimenez (Nashua, N.H.) were all named to the 2019 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer First Team in an announcement by the league on Wednesday. Additionally, Filetti was named the MASCAC Defensive Player of the Year while head coach Matt Correia earned Champion's Choice Coach of the Year Honors.

Forward Nicholas Ramos (Middleboro, Mass.) and defender Damon Deocleciano (Lowell, Mass.) earned second team honors.

Filetti was the league's top defender, helping Salem State to a league-best eight shutouts and a 0.83 goals against average. The sophomore anchored a defense that gave up just 17 goals in 19 games (11-5-3) which included a four-game stretch in which the defense did not allow a goal. Amaral a second-team selection a year ago, was a steady and consistent player for the Vikings this season. One of the top mids in the conference, the junior netted five goals and five assists which were second best on the team. Jimenez, the league's top goalie went 7-5-1 for Salem State, producing four shutouts and a 1.04 goals against average with an 81.3 save percentage.

Ramos led Salem State in scoring as freshman. The talented forward produced 10 goals (20 points), which placed him second in the conference. Deocleciano a first-time selection, started all 19 games for the Vikings this season. The junior provided leadership from the back while helping sustain one of the MASCAC's best counter-attacking units.
