WORCESTER, Mass. - Orlando Rodrigues (Burlington, Mass.) netted the only goal of the game as Salem State held off Worcester State 1-0 in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference match at Coughlin Field on Saturday afternoon. The Vikings improve to 5-4-0 and 2-0-0 in conference play. With the loss, Worcester State falls to 3-6-0 overall on the season and 1-1-0 in the MASCAC.
Salem State scored the game's only goal in the 22nd minute, when Rodrigues got on the end of a Lucas Amaral (Peabody, Mass.) free kick to deposit his first goal of the season. Worcester State outshot the Vikings 4-3 in the half, but the teams went to the locker room with the Lancers trailing by a goal.
Neither team found the back of the net in the second half, despite a 10-5 Salem State shot advantage. Salem State's Christopher Jimenez (Nashua, N.H.) got his fourth win of the season in goal with a two save shutout. Worcester State's Henri Guilmette (Franklin, Mass.) took the loss making four saves.
