Vikings Shutout Hawks 3-0

Leicester, Mass. -- Nicholas Ramos (Middleboro, Mass.) scored two goals and Ryan Smith (Shelton, Conn.) added his second of the season as the Salem State Vikings (1-2) picked up their first win of the year with a 3-0 shutout over the Becker Hawks on Wednesday evening.

Matthew Hauntsman (Milford, N.H.), who made his first career start in net, made a single save in the victory.

Ramos scored the only goal of the first half in the 4th minute as Salem State's defense limited Becker (0-2) to just one shot on net in the period.

Smith extended the lead to 2-0 when he converted a corner from Lucas Amaral (Peabody, Mass.) in the 49th minute. Ramos broke through the Hawks' defense in the 59th minute and finished the breakaway, making the score 3-0.

The Hawks were limited to just four shots for the game as Salem State's defense stifled Becker's offense for ninety minutes. Sam Majewski (Warren, Mass.) recorded six saves in the loss before being replaced by Tyler Marzocchi (North Providence, R.I.).
