Buccaneers Sail Past Vikings

SALEM, Mass. -- Mass Maritime defeated Salem State 32-15 in a MASCAC men's lacrosse matchup at Alumni Field on Tuesday evening. The Buccaneers are now 9-5 and 5-2 in the conference. The Vikings are 7-8 and 1-7.

Quinn Mucha led Mass Maritime with five goals and three assists. Cooper Barrett added four scores for the Buccaneers while Daniel Kane tallied three goals, four assists and seven groundballs.

Connor Vittands had four scores and Fisher Gadbois and Grady Smith each netted three goals and an assist for the Vikings.   

How it Happened

  • Vittands gave Salem State an early 1-0 lead with a man-up goal in the first. However, Mass Maritime responded with four unanswered scores before Landon Rice cut the deficit in half with 10:18 remaining. The Buccaneers scored 7-of-the-next nine goals with Sullivan accounting for three scores, giving Mass Maritime an 11-4 first quarter lead.
  • Each team scored three times in the second to give the Buccaneers a 14-7 lead in the second.
  • Mass Maritme pulled away in the third, outscoring Salem State 9-3 in the quarter with Barrett accounting for two of the scores.
  • Barrett scored his fourth goal of the game in the fourth to extend the lead to 24-10. Back-to-back goals by Liam Cogavin and Dominick Cataline made the score 27-11 with 9:56 left before Mass Maritime settled for a 32-15 victory.
