Salem State Holds Off Thomas

SALEM, Mass. -- Fisher Gadbois and Cameron Smith connected for back-to-back scores in the fourth quarter to break a 12-12 tie as Salem State held off Thomas, 14-13 on Wednesday evening at Alumni Field. The Vikings are now 6-3 on the year while the Terriers go to 2-7.
Gadbois finished with four goals while Landon Rice added three. Cameron Smith and Cameron Collins each had a goal and three assists for Salem State. Jack Seward-Dailey led the defensive effort with five caused turnovers. Jack Morrill and Timothy Worster each scored a pair of goals for Thomas.
How it Happened
- Worster and Gadbois exchanged goals to open the game before Thomas scored three straight, with two coming of the stick of Owen Lyons. Salem State closed the quarter on a 4-0 run with Rice accounting for the final two goals, giving Salem State a 5-4 lead after one.
- Morrill pulled the Terriers to within a goal at 7-6 with 7:27 left in the second. However, once again the Vikings closed the quarter strong with three unanswered goals to take a 10-6 lead into halftime.
- Worster drew Thomas to within two scores, 10-8 at the 7:00 minute mark of the third. Connor Vittands added a man-up goal and a Collins goal pushed the lead to 12-8. Dustyn Hinkley scored with just :05 seconds remaining for Thomas to cut the deficit to 12-9 at the end of three.
- The Terriers scored three straight to begin the fourth as Hunter Simpson, Connor Hamilton and Worster all found the back of the net.
- Once again Salem State answered as Gadbois and Cameron Smith regained the lead for the Vikings before Nicholas Pike connected for the Terriers with 3:43 left in the game. The Vikings kept the Terriers' offense in check the rest of the way to hold on for the one-goal victory.
- Damian Biersteker (4-2) made 12 saves in the win.
- Daniel Guarino (2-5) stopped nine shots in the loss.
- Thomas held a 38-33 advantage in shots.
