Salem State Gets By Husson

BANGOR, Maine --  Cameron Smith and Fisher Gadbois combined for seven goals as Salem State held off Husson 13-11 at Boucher Field on Wednesday afternoon. The Vikings improve to 5-2 while the Eagles dip to 7-4.

Connor Vittands added two goals and an assist for Salem State while Grady Smith added a score to go with three assists. Drew Clinch - three goals, one assist and - and Kiernan Field - three goals - led Husson.

How it Happened

  • Gadbois gave the Vikings their first lead, 2-1 at 9:12 of the first.
  • The Eagles netted the next two goals before Landon Rice and Smith put the Vikings up 4-3 at the end of one.
  • Salem State opened the second with a 4-0 run as Grady Smith, Vittands, Cameron Smith and Joseph Turpin all scored. Field got one back for Husson with :05 seconds remaining before halftime as the Vikings carried an 8-4 lead into the break.
  • Salem State maintained a four-goal edge in the third as the two teams exchanged three goals apiece in the period.
  • Cameron Smith opened the scoring in the fourth, but Husson rallied, scoring four straight with Cinch drawing Husson to within a goal, 12-11 with 3:07 left.
  • However, Gadbois cemented the win with his third goal with :09 seconds remaining.
  • Damian Biersteker made 13 saves in the win.
  • AJ Torres took the loss making three saves in one half of work. Odin Burk made four saves for the Eagles after halftime.
  • Salem State's Payton Cabral and Husson's Owen Giorgio tied with a game-high nine groundballs each.

The Vikings travel to Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, March 29 for a 1:00 pm game.
