Vikings Win Fourth Straight

SALEM, Mass. -- Salem State won their fourth straight game, holding off Regis 17-14 at Regis Stadium on Wednesday evening. The Vikings improve to 4-1 while the Pride go to 1-4.
Connor Vittands and Fisher Gadbois each scored six goals to pace the offense. Grady Smith had a goal to go with three assists while Payton Cabral added a goal and had a team-leading six groundballs.
Brendan Cook led the Regis offense with five goals while Jack Jaynes had three goals and two assists.
How it Happened
- Gadbois scored three goals and Vittands two as Salem State opened up a 7-3 first quarter lead. Cook and Luke Meelia closed the gap for Regis, making the score 7-5 at the end of one.
- Salem State scored three unanswered to open the second, including a pair from Vittands to build a 10-5 lead. The Pride scored three of the next four goals to cut the deficit to 11-8, but Gadbois and Brendan Cook gave Salem State a 12-9 halftime advantage.
- Gadbois scored his fifth goal to start the third, but back-to-back scores from Jaynes and Weston Schumache cut the Salem State lead to two goals entering the fourth.
- A Grady Smith goal at 9:33 made it 15-12 in favor of the Vikings, but Jaynes and Cook answered again for the Pride, pulling them to within a goal at 15-14.
- However, Gadbois and Vittands put the game out of reach with scores in the final two minutes, making the final 17-14.
- Damian Biersteker (2-0) made 20 saves in the win.
- Devin Hammon (1-3) took the loss making four saves before halftime. Ryan Guerrette stopped 11 shots in relief.
- The two teams combined for 85 shots. Salem State - 43, Regis - 42
