Salem State Posts 9-7 Victory Over Mt. St. Vincent

RIVERDALE, N.Y. --  Connor Vittands and Grady Smith each scored two goals to go with an assist apiece as Salem State earned a 9-7 victory over Mt. St. Vincent on Saturday. The Vikings begin the year 2-1 while the Dophins slip to 1-3.

Ryan Jean-Pharuns and Nigel Walker scored two goals each for Mt. St. Vincent.

How it Happened

  • Landon Rice jump started the offense for Salem State as five different goal scorers gave Salem State a 5-1 first quarter lead 
  • The Dolphins used a 3-0 second quarter run to cut the deficit to one goal after Walker scored with 5:58 remaining in the second quarter.    
  • Vittands and Isaac Parsons exchanged third quarter scores by each side, keeping the lead for Salem State 6-5. 
  • Coleman Ballweg gave the Vikings some breathing room, but once again Mt. St. Vincent answered. However, Smith helped Salem State pull away with back-to-back goals before Walker capped the scoring at the 4:31, making the final 9-7. 
  • Damian Biersteker (3-1) stopped 18 shots in the win. 
  • Joseph Seminatore (1-2) made 18 saves for the Dolphins.  
  • Jack Zenger scored his first collegiate goal. 
  • The Vikings took a season-high 44 shots.
