Salem State Overwhelms Albertus Magnus 21-3

SALEM, Mass. -- Salem State earned their first win of the season with a convincing 21-3 win over Albertus Magnus on Saturday at Alumni Field. Fisher Gadbois and Cameron Smith each tallied five goals apiece with Gadbois notching three assists as well as the Vikings raise their record to 1-1 on the year. The Falcons are now 0-2.
Ryan Jones added three goals and an assist for Salem State while Landon Rice finished with two goals and two assists. Derrick Mejia had a pair of scores for Albertus Magnus.
How it Happened
- Salem State opened the first period with a 5-0 run highlighted by a pair of goals from Gadbois.
- Gadbois added three more goals in the second period and Cameron Smith scored his second as Salem State tallied 11 unanswered goals before halftime.
- Cameron Smith and Landon Rice added back-to-back scores to open the third before Albertus Magnus finally broke the drought as Derrick Mejia netted the first goal of the game for the Falcons with 5:47 gone in the third. Smith and Mejia exchanged goals to bring the score to 15-2 before Grady Smith, Cameron Smith and Tyler Kalloo added three more goals, making the score 17-2 at the end of the third.
- Jones scored all three of his goals in the fourth while Braedyn Hiltz added the Vikings' other goal in the period. Lassana Dior Fofana accounted for Albertus Magnus's final goal in the fourth as Salem State went on to win 21-3.
- Damian Biersteker (1-0) made all nine saves to earn his first collegiate win.
- Ryan Cohen - 3 goals allowed, 9 saves and Jack Zenger - 2 saves also saw time in net.
- Nick Duryea (0-2) made eight saves in the loss.
The Vikings travel to Mount St. Vincent next Saturday, March 8 for a 1:00 pm game.
