DIII Week Spotlight: College Siblings - Kyle & Lindsey Tammaro

Jose Rodriguez '24, Staff Writer | Media & Communications

As Salem State continues its celebration of Division III Week we celebrate the impact athletics and student-athletes have on campus and in the surrounding community. We are proud to highlight student-athletes who displayed a great deal of leadership, community service, and campus involvement during their years competing as Vikings.

Salem State Athletics is proud to feature current student-athletes and siblings Kyle and Lindsey Tammaro, who hail from Saugus, Massachusetts. Kyle is a four-year member and current captain of the Salem State men's lacrosse team while Lindsey is a freshman on the field hockey team.

Can you talk about the journey to becoming student-athletes at the same school as each other?

Lindsey: Growing up, my brother and I have always been involved in sports, I don't think there was ever a time where either of us weren't playing something. By coming to Salem and playing field hockey I still get to have that bond of being an athlete with my brother.

Kyle: I'm not really sure when I decided to become an athlete, but I just grew up playing sports my whole life. It's just always been there. It means a lot to me that my sister has followed in my footsteps, not only in attending Salem State, but also just being an athlete. It feels good to know that I am looked up to by someone so close to me.

How much have you grown and learned from your older brother as a person and as a athlete?

Lindsey: My brother has taught me to work hard and to always put 100 percent of your effort into everything you do. When I watch him play lacrosse, I see that he always puts his best effort into every play and that is the type of player I want to be.

What kind of advice has Kyle given you throughout the years?

Lindsey: He's told me to always try my best and to keep pushing myself. I can only get better by giving my everything at both practices and games. He also tells me to prove people wrong. If someone is underestimating me, prove them wrong and show to them what I've got.

Do you work out together to get prepared for the season?

Kyle: We help each other out whenever we need it. I've had my fair share of struggles through my life and having my sister be someone who I can rely on no matter what is just a great feeling, and she means a lot to me. I'm blessed to have a sister who I'm not only close to, but also have a lot in common with, which many people aren't fortunate enough to have.

Knowing that your bother is a student-athlete at Salem State, was it one of the factors in your decision to come to Salem State?

Lindsey: I was actually thinking of going somewhere else for college, but hearing my brother talk about how being on a team and how it made his college experience better, it made me realize that I would miss not being on a team and that I wasn't ready to stop playing.

What are some benefits of having your sister going to the same university as you?

Kyle: The biggest benefit is easily having someone who I'm really close with being just right down the street. God forbid, anything we're to happen to either one of us, we're only a short walk away. It's also nice just to have another familiar face on campus as well.

Did you ever envision being at the same university as your older brother?

Lindsey: It wasn't really something I thought about, as I decided to come to Salem State last minute. I think that being here with my brother and both of us being student-athletes is an awesome experience and I am glad that I'm here.

Do you go to each other's games, and if so, what does it mean to you that you are supporting each other throughout the season?

Kyle: Yeah, we both go to each others games. It's awesome to see her support me and watch my games during the season. Although the number one goal is winning, I try to play my best because I know she's going to be there and that's very important to me.

How important is to be really close with your older brother and what does he mean to you?

Lindsey: It is important for me to be close with Kyle as family is very important to me. He means a lot to me as he has always been there for me growing up.

How important is to be really close with your sister?

Kyle: It's very important to be close with my sister. She's someone who's going to be there for me my entire life. So it's really important to stay close with her.
