GORHAM, Maine -- Southern Maine ran out to an 8-3 halftime lead behind a seven goal, three assists effort from Nick James, to defeat Salem State 22-5 at Hannaford Field in a Little East contest on Wednesday afternoon. The Huskies up their record to 3-10 and 1-4 in the LEC. The Vikings slip to 1-13, 0-5.

Schuyler Wetmore netted four goals and two assists for Southern Maine while Omar Contreras and James Kastrinakis combined for six goals and three assists. Dakota Girard led Salem State with three goals while Lake Fleming had two goals and a pair of assists. 

Nick James scored two of the Huskies' four first period goals as Southern Maine led 4-1 after one. Fleming and Girard went back-to-back for the Vikings, drawing the visitors to within 4-3, but the Huskies scored four goals in the final 10:41 of the second to take an 8-3 lead into halftime. 

James and Wetmore scored three goals apiece in a seven-goal third period for Southern Maine. Girard broke the run for the Vikings with a score at 3:30 of the third. Kastrinakis had three goals in the final period as the Huskies opened the scoring with six straight goals. Girard and Nolan Winston notched goals in the final 1:19, making the final 22-5.

Addison Dietz made eight saves in the win while Trevor Gilligan had 20 stops for the Vikings.
