Eastern Nazarene Outlasts Salem State

NORTH QUINCY , Mass. -- Lake Fleming and Dakota Girard scored four goals apiece, but Jamar Griggs netted two fourth period goals as Eastern Nazarene held on for a 13-12 victory over Salem State at Creedon Field on Thursday night. The Lyons pick up their second win (2-5) The Vikings now stand at 1-12 on the season.

Fleming, Aidan Hollingsworth and Girard all scored first period goals as Salem State raced out to a 3-0 lead. However, Matt Cawthorne scored back-to-back goals and Devano Clarke, who along with Griggs had a game-high five goals on the night, tied the score for the Lyons with 1:42 remaining in the first. Girard and Griggs scored two goals apiece in the second period as the Vikings took a 6-5 lead. Clarke answered with two scores in the final 2:43 for Eastern Nazarene, giving the Lyons a 7-6 halftime lead. 

Erik Magner tied the game for Salem State early in the third, as the two teams exchanged goals with two scores by Fleming tying the game at 9-all with 4:25 remaining in the period. Griggs snuck in a goal just before the buzzer for Eastern Nazarene as the home team held a one-goal margin entering the fourth. Clarke and Griggs extended the lead to 12-9 before goals by Girard and Magner drew the Vikings to within 12-11 with 3:50 remaining in the final period. Griggs added the eventual game-winner on a man-up opportunity with 2:29 left, as Magner gave the Salem State a final opportunity with his third goal of the game in the final minute, but the Vikings could not find the equalizer as the Lyons held on for the victory.  

Stockwell made 12 saves to earn the win. Trevor Gilligan stopped 14 shots for Salem State. Cole Hay won 16-of-25 face-offs for Salem State.
