Castleton Posts 11-4 Victory Over Salem State

SALEM, Mass. -- Chris LaBonte netted three goals and an assist and Liam Evarts added a pair of scores with an assist as Castleton posted an 11-4 victory over Salem State in a Little East Conference tilt at Alumni Field on Saturday. The Spartans are 4-7 on the year and 1-1 in conference. The Vikings slide to 1-10 and 0-3 in the LEC.

Castleton scored three goals in the first period to take a 3-0 lead. LaBonte, Cam Frankenhoff and Jason Samek all connected as the Spartans opened the game with six unanswered goals. Evarts and Sean Kimura added back-to-back man-up goals with Hunter Sarro giving Castleton a 6-0 lead with 9:22 remaining in the second. Aidan Hollingsworth scored an unassisted goal for the Vikings, but Matt Gregoire answered for the Spartans, giving Castleton a 7-1 halftime lead. The Spartans held the Vikings to just seven first half shots.

The lead stretched to 9-1 in the third, before Kyle Tammaro scored the first of his two fourth period goals for Salem State. Tammaro and Lake Fleming scored back-to-back goals for the Vikings to pull Salem State to within 10-4 with 6:22 remaining, but Evarts added a man-up goal in the final minute to close the scoring as Castleton went on to win 11-4. 

Christopher Dindino started in goal for Castleton as all three goalies saw action in net for the Spartans. Trevor Gilligan stopped 19 shots for the Vikings. LaBonte won 11-of-17 face off attempts to finish with five ground balls. Glen-Thanh Doan had four caused turnovers and seven ground balls for the Vikings.
