Hawks Cruise To Win Over Vikings

SALEM, Mass. -- Eric Kelly scored seven goals and John Furino added six goals and three assists as Hartford remained unbeaten on the year with a 20-4 win over Salem State on Wednesday evening under the lights at Alumni Field. The Hawks are now 5-0 while the Vikings' record stands at 1-9.

Hartford took a 4-0 first period lead with Kelly supplying three of the scores. Mason Moy and Aidan Kemp extended the run to six with back-to-back-scores to open the second before Aristomenis Koumentakos put Salem State on the scoreboard with 5:59 remaining in the second. Kemp added two more goals for Hartford in the period, but Lake Fleming snuck a shot past goalie Cole Zering with :29 seconds remaining before halftime to make the score 8-2. The Hawks held a 32-11 advantage in shots at the break. 

Hartford outscored Salem State 7-1 in the third with Furino and Kelly notching three goals apiece. The Hawks added five unanswered goals in the final period, with three more coming from the stick of Furino. Aidan Hollingsworth tallied a score for Salem State late, making the final 20-4. 

Cam Jones dominated the face-off circle for the Hawks, winning 24-of-28 face-offs while corralling 13 groundballs.

Zering earned the win, making three saves in one half of work. Andrew Leibold made two second half saves in goal for Hartford. Trevor Gilligan stopped 10 shots for the Vikings.
