Warriors Overpower Vikings

MANSFIELD, Conn. -- Brycen Kennedy scored two goals and added three assists and Warren Channing, Jason Ioli and Tim Lichack notched three goals apiece to lead a balanced attack as Eastern Connecticut defeated Salem State 18-1 at Rick McCarthy Field in the Little East opener for both teams on Saturday. The Warriors improve to 3-4 and 1-0 in conference. The Vikings are now 1-6 and 0-1 in conference.

Eastern Connecticut opened up a 7-0 first quarter lead as Kennedy and Lichack combined for five of the Warrior goals. Shane Haggerty made it 8-0 in the opening seconds of the second quarter before Lake Fleming answered for Salem State at the 12:58 mark. Channing added his second score of the game and Garrett Lapham connected with his first as Eastern Connecticut carried a 10-1 lead into halftime. The Warriors held a 23-1 advantage in shots on goal in the first half.  

Channing added his third of the game early in the third quarter before three more scores to end the period made it 14-1 in favor of Eastern Connecticut. Ioli scored all three of his goals in the fourth period and Baden Krisst added his second, making the final 18-5.

Nick Collazo made two saves in the victory while Trevor Gilligan stopped 21 shots.
