Gordon Overwhelms Salem State 22-3

SALEM, Mass. -- Jackson Wright scored five goals and added four assists as Gordon trounced Salem State 22-3 in the Vikings' home opener of Friday afternoon at Alumni Field. The Fighting Scots even their record at 2-2 while Salem State dips to 1-2.

Gordon scored five unanswered goals in the opening period to take a 5-0 lead behind a pair of scores from Ryan Stephen Long. Kyle Tammaro broke the string for the Vikings, but Wright and Long combined for four goals as Gordon scored six times in the second period to take a commanding 11-2 lead at halftime. The Fighting Scots held a comfortable 30-13 lead in shots at the half. 

Gordon continued to pile up the scoring, going on a 6-0 run in the third to take a 17-2 lead heading into the fourth. Wright added his fifth of the game with a man-advantage at 14:01 of the final period as five more unanswered goals by the Fighting Scots pushed the lead to 22-2. Erik Magner closed the scoring for the Vikings, adding a goal with 1:30 left in the game, making the final 22-3.

Will Fleming had three goals and an assist for Gordon while Aidan Walsh led Gordon with 10 groundballs. Joel Bean had a goal and three assists for the Fighting Scots, who ended the game with a 58-25 shot advantage. Tammaro finished with a goal and six groundballs with a pair of caused turnovers for Salem State. 

Colin Liscomb earned the win in net, making five saves in two quarters. Patrick Williams finished the game in goal in the second half and recorded five saves. Trevor Gilligan stopped 18-of-40 shots for the Vikings in the loss.
