Vikings Clinch Spot in MASCAC Semifinals With 3-1 Win Over UMass Dartmouth

SALEM, Mass. -- No. 3 Salem State held off No. 6 UMass Dartmouth in the quarterfinals of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Postseason Tournament, winning 3-1 on Thursday evening at Rockett Arena. Landyn Greatorex (Reading, Mass.) scored a pair of goals for Salem State, who improved to 19-6 on the year. The Corsairs end their campaign 11-14-1. The Vikings will face No. 4 seed Fitchburg State on Saturday at 6:00 pm in the semifinals.
How it Happened:
- Greatorex put home a rebound on a power play for a 1-0 Salem State lead in the first.
- A turnover by the Corsairs in their own end setup James Tatro (Salisbury, Mass.), who ripped a shot past goalie, Graham Burke (Wilmington, Del.) for a 2-0 Vikings' advantage in the second.
- A give-and-go by Alex Walker (Latrobe, Pa.) and Tyler Stewart (Calgary, Alberta) cut the deficit in half for UMass Dartmouth 5:54 into the third as Walker scored his 10th goal of the season.
- The Corsairs pressured the Vikings in the final minutes and nearly tied the game with :40 seconds remaining, but the puck was ruled not to have crossed the goal line.
- Greatorex then iced the game with an empty-netter with an assist from Tatro, making the final 3-1.

- Burke finished with 34 saves for the Corsairs.
