Salem State Stops Anna Maria

AUBURN, Mass. -- Five unanswered goals, including a pair by Landyn Greatorex, and two from James Tatro gave Salem State a 5-2 win over Anna Maria at Horgan Ice Rink on Thursday in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) play. The Vikings, winners of sixth straight, improve to 17-6 on the season and 13-4 in conference The AMCATS slip to 18-6 and 14-3. 

How it Happened:

  • Tobias Omholt jumpstarted the offense for Anna Maria with a first period goal, giving the home team an early 1-0 advantage.
  • Matthew Byrne added a power play goal at 14:45 to give the AMCATS a two-goal cushion at the end of one.
  • Nick Sweet answered for Salem State at 6:11 of the second to start a string of five unanswered goals by the Vikings. 
  • Greatorex added back-to-back scores just 2:28 apart to put the Vikings in front, 3-2 at 14:28 of the second.
  • Tatro added a shorthanded goal with less than four minutes remaining in the second, making the score 4-2 in favor of Salem State.
  • Tatro then notched his sixth goal in the past five games late in the third to close the scoring as the Vikings won 5-2.

Inside the Numbers: 

  • Will Nepveu earned the win in net stopping 48-of-50 shots.
  • Matthew Hennessey took the loss making 34-of-39 saves.
  • Anna Maria posted a 50-39 advantage in shots.
  • Greatorex also tallied two assists.
