Salem State Storms Past UMass Dartmouth

SALEM, Mass. -- Salem State overwhelmed UMass Dartmouth, scoring five first period goals enroute to a 6-2 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) victory over the Corsairs on Monday evening at Rockett Arena. The Vikings have now won three straight, and are 14-6 on the season and 10-4 in conference. UMass Dartmouth is now 9-11-1 and 6-7-1 in conference.

How it Happened:

  • Landyn Greatorex opened the scoring at 3:49 of the first for the Vikings. 
  • Hunter Scanlon tied the game for UMass Dartmouth with a power play goal less than three minutes later.
  • Luke Day put Salem State back on top with his eighth goal of the year at 8:12.
  • Rais Francis made it 3-1 before James Tatro added a power play goal, giving the Vikings a 4-1 first period lead. 
  • Tatro netted his second of the period at 16:52, scoring Salem State's fifth goal of the period. 
  • A scoreless second period kept the Vikings' lead at four goals. 
  • Tyler Stewart connected for the Corsairs with less than five minutes remaining in the third to make the score 5-2.
  • Day scored his second goal, adding an empty-netter with 1:30 left in the game. 

Inside the Numbers: 

  • Will Nepveu (13-5) made 35 saves in the victory.
  • Graham Burke (6-6) took the loss, giving up 15 goals in 16:52 minutes of action. Marshall McKallip - 13 saves did not allow a goal in relief. 
  • Day finished with four points - 2 goals, 2 assists.
  • Rais Francis had three points - 1 goal, 2 assists while Tatro finished with a pair of goals.
  • Carson James, Davis Kinne and Keagan O'Donoghue all contributed with two assists each.   
  • This was the second time Salem State scored five goals in a period this season (1/23 Worcester State).
