BOSTON -- Mitch Wilkie scored his second straight overtime game-winner as Salem State battled back to defeat Nichols, 4-3 in the opening game of the Boston Landing Collegiate Invitational sponsored by Noble + Energy at the Warrior Ice Arena on Saturday, January 4. Wilkie's score came at 2:06 into the extra period as the Vikings came back from a two-goal third period deficit. Salem State (6-4) has now won three in a row and will face the winner of Middlebury/SUNY Canton in the championship game at 2:40 pm tomorrow afternoon, January 5.
How it Happened:
- Keagan O'Donoghue's third goal in four games gave Salem State a 1-0 lead 5:33 into the first.
- Josh Dickson tied it up for Nichols (4-6-2) with a goal at 14:47 in the first as the two teams went into the second tied 1-1.
- Joey Allegrini netted a score and CJ Zezima added a power play goal as the Bison built a 3-1 advantage in the second.
- Trailing by two goals in the third, James Tatro notched his 10th point of the season to draw the Vikings to within a score with a power play goal.
- Zach Dill sent the game into overtime, scoring with just :26 second remaining.
- Wilkie, who helped knockoff #10 Endicott on December 10, then completed the comeback, notching his second straight game-winner.
Inside the Numbers:
- Will Nepveu (5-3) picked up the win making 36 saves.
- Liam Choquette (2-4) suffered the loss stopping 33 shots.
- Landyn Greatorex and Davis Kinne combined for five assists.
- This was the first ever meeting between the two teams.
