Plymouth State's Late Goal Upends Salem State

SALEM, Mass. --  Colin Tracy's third period goal broke a 3-3 tie and lifted Plymouth State to a 4-3 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) win over Salem State at Rockett Arena on Saturday evening. The Panthers move to 5-2 and remain unbeaten in conference at 3-0. The Vikings slip to 3-4 and 2-2 in conference.

How it Happened:

  • A game misconduct by the Vikings set up a 5-on-3 power play opportunity for Plymouth State, which the Panthers converted into a goal by Patrick O'Connell in the first as Plymouth State carried a 1-0 lead into the second.
  • Will Redick extended the advantage to 2-0, putting home a rebound just :50 seconds into the second.
  • A 3-on-2 by Salem State led to a goal by Rais Francis as the Vikings cut the deficit to 2-1 at 8:47 of the second.
  • Cameron Patton made it a two-goal game again as his shot deflected off the pad of goalie Will Nepveu for a 3-1 Panthers' lead.
  • James Tatro worked the puck up ice and found Chase Conlon for Salem State's second goal at 19:17, cutting Plymouth State's lead to 3-2.
  • Keagan O'Donoghue then tied the game for Salem State with a power play goal midway through the third period.
  • However, Colin Tracy regained the lead for the Panthers as his shot from just inside the blue line found the back of the net for a 4-3 Plymouth State lead with 9:18 remaining, proving to be the game-winner.
