UMass Dartmouth Posts 6-2 Win Over Salem State

New Bedford, Mass. -- Connor Little scored twice as UMass Dartmouth defeated Salem State 6-2 in MASCAC action on Saturday afternoon at Hetland Arena. The Corsairs boosted their record to 4-3, 3-2 while the Vikings dropped to 3-3, 3-2.  

During the initial ten minutes of the game, both teams had multiple power play opportunities, with both teams drawing two attempts. However, neither team was able to capitalize. Towards the end of the first period, with just 49 seconds left, Michael Perrone beat Aaron Mercer for a goal, giving Corsairs a 1-0 lead. 

Salem State had three power play opportunities but failed to score on any, while UMass Dartmouth was 1-for-1. 

Kevin Johnston extended the Corsairs lead by scoring a goal three minutes into the second period. Tyler Steward assisted the goal. Seven minutes later, UMass Dartmouth scored its third goal of the game, with Connor Little scoring on a power play goal. Collin Mercer was credited with the assist.  

Nolan Wutzke scored the fourth goal of the game for the Corsairs, assisted by Colin Cromie and Vincent Nicosia with 12:47 minutes left in the second period. Will Nepveu replaced Mercer in net for the Vikings.

Towards the end of the second period, UMass Dartmouth scored two more goals within a span of 63 seconds. The game's fifth goal came on a Corsairs' power play, with Connor scoring his second goal. Michael Perrone and Lane Ruffner assisted on the goal which came at the 18:39 mark. Just 18 seconds before the second period ended, Bryce Grennan scored the sixth goal of the game, with Collin Cromie and Nolan Wutzke receiving credit for the assists. 

Salem State scored twice in the final period to make the final 6-2. Landyn Greatorex scored a goal on a power play, with Zach Dill and Keagan O'Donoghue being credited with the assists. The goal was scored with 4:51 minutes left in the game. A minute and forty seconds later, the Vikings scored their second goal of the game, with Luke Day scoring and Greatorex and Jake Stapert being credited with the assists.

Mercer made 18 saves for Salem State while Nepveu had 12. Daniel Davidson made 21 saves for the Corsairs.
