Salem State's Fast Start Too Much For Rams

SALEM, Mass. -- Erik Larsson (Lake Tahoe, Calif.) and David Cicak (Cranford, N.J.) scored a pair of goals each as Salem State snapped a six-game losing streak with a convincing 7-2 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) victory over Framingham State on Saturday at Rockett Arena. The win lifts the Vikings to 4-15 on the year and 2-11 in the MASCAC. The Rams slip to 5-13-1 and 3-9-1 in the league.

Salem State stormed out to a quick 1-0 lead, scoring off the opening face-off as Larsson raced in for a score just :11 seconds into the game. Christopher Dowd (Danville, N.H.) converted on a second chance opportunity, scoring his second goal against the Rams this season as the Vikings took a 2-0 lead just 4:28 into the game. Keagan O'Donoghue's (Frisco, Texas) power-play goal made it 3-0 with less than a minute remaining in the opening period.

Once again, Salem State took advantage of a win on the opening face-off and this time scored just :08 seconds into the second as Larsson's wrap-around pushed the lead to 4-0. An unassisted power-play goal from David Cicak (Cranford, N.J.) increased the lead to 5-0 before Ashton Collazo (Victor, N.Y.) wristed one past goalie Peter Barry (Stoneham, Mass.) to put Framingham State on the board at 7:39 of the second.

Salem State's Ethan Demumbrum (Brentwood, Tenn.) added his first goal of the season, making the score 6-1 early in the third. John Baker (Newton, Mass.) tallied the Rams second score of the game with a power-play goal at 7:01 of the third. Finally, Cicak capped the scoring with the Vikings' seventh goal in the final minute, making the final 7-2.

Barry earned the win in net in his first start, making 31 saves. Blake Carlson (Clermont, Fla.) suffered the loss, stopping 40 shots for Framingham State, who were outshot 47-33 for the game.
