Westfield State Holds Off Salem State
SALEM, Mass. -- JoJo Carbone's (Marshfield, Mass.) first period goal proved to be the difference as Westfield State held off Salem State 2-1 in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) matchup at Rockett Arena on Saturday afternoon. The Owls end a four-game skid and improve to 6-8-1 on the year and 3-6 in conference. The Vikings now stand at 3-12 on the season and 1-8 in the conference.

Salem State's Zach Dill (Lake Tahoe, Calif.) opened the scoring, notching a goal for the third time in four games with a wrister at the 5:44 mark of the first. However, the Owls answered less than five minutes later as Gianluca Marini (Lighthouse Point, Fla.) found the back of the net, tying the game at 1-apiece. Later in the period, Carbone put Westfield State ahead to stay, 2-1, converting on a 2-on-1, that was setup by Colin Roe  (Boston, Mass.).

Owls goalie Valtteri Valtonen (Helsinki, Finland) stopped 23 shots over the final two periods, finishing with 28 for the game to earn his fifth win (5-8-1).

The Vikings struggled on the power-play, ending the game 0-for-7. Aaron Mercer (Corner Brook, Newfoundland) made 33 saves in net for Salem State, which was outshot 35-29 for the game.
